Directing Your Life through NLP(Neuro Linguistic Programming)

Thoughts and feelings can have a direct impact on your health and

well-being so, if you consider that negativity can cause damage, just imagine what positivity can do.

The unconscious mind is very powerful; it controls the day-to-day running of your body and also has a direct impact on all of your successes in life.

 You may think that you make conscious decisions but often, the outcome is totally different than you anticipated. Sometimes, this happens out of fear.

 Let’s assume that you have decided to achieve a specific goal, but what happens if your unconscious mind feels differently? It may work against you ruining any chances of you achieving those goals.

 On the other hand, just imagine what may be possible if your unconscious mind and conscious mind work in the same direction towards the same goal.

 And in order to unify these two components, it’s important for us to understand how they work and its strength.

 The brain is a fascinating and complex part of our body with 80 billion cells and these are capable of making 10,000 connections.

The more you learn about it, the greater your potential to create new ways of existing.

 

Important three stages of the brain within human evolution:

 

1)    Reptilian brain

 This is the integral part of the brain that existed at birth and which would continue if the brain ever becomes damaged (i.e.) this keeps all of the necessary physical reflexes (such as breathing) indicating over survival instinct.

 

2)    Limbic brain

 This is the reticular activating system and the amygdala, which oversees the emotional responses. This part of your brain is known as the instinctive emotional element.

 

3)    Cognitive brain

 The cognitive part of the brain (i.e.) the prefrontal cortex oversees all of the planning and decision making, it includes relationships or risk assessment. This is known as the intelligent part which utilizes the other parts of the brain as a whole.

 

The brain has long been considered to be hardwired and that it is impossible to change it. However, research now indicates this to be untrue. Practitioners of NLP have long believed this to be the case and that it can be changed or developed as is required. This forms an important part of the NLP ethos.

 

Let’s break that down a little:

 Think of the conscious mind as being the tip of an iceberg, whereas the unconscious mind forms the largest part of the iceberg – much of which is submerged under water.


The unconscious mind engages at a more intuitive or emotional level while your conscious mind focus on those logical practical tasks.

 Therefore, exploring your conscious mind becomes highly beneficial.

Note that the unconscious mind is incapable of processing negatives or positives.

So it can work against you if not carefully induced your mind with only and only positives for your unconscious mind to work in favor of you.

 

For example:

Consider that you have suffered a difficult and hurtful romantic break-up and afterwards, may have stated that you do not want to be alone. Here the sub-conscious mind is unable to focus on the negative aspects of that sentence i.e. ‘do not want to be’….and instead, just focuses on the word...alone.

Which is then translates as the goal.

 Even though this is far from the actual desire.

 You can see from this that it is paramount that you state your goals in a positive way.

 So instead of saying ‘I do not want to be alone’, you have to turn it around, creating statements that are totally positive in nature such as ‘I want to be in a good relationship.’ You have to direct your unconscious mind because without focus and direction, it can get destructive.

 Similarly, when dealing with goals, always consider the effect on the unconscious mind.

 You can do so by practicing:

 1)relaxation/breathing techniques

2)mindfulness meditation

3)repetitive usage and saying of Positive Affirmations.
